I woke up this morning feeling like I had been hit by a truck.
We're going out to dinner tonight to see if a local country club might be a nice place for the wedding reception (my dad's company has a membership there, so it may be a tad cheaper...). I figured I should straighten my hair and vetoed the shower this morning. I was so dizzy, I think it was the smartest move, because when i add hot water to my dizziness, I usually end up passing out on the bathroom floor or puking my guts out :/ I sat and worked in the office today, went home, ate some food, and now feel better. I'm not sure what is going on, but I think I have a small virus. My elbow joints have been hurting so much lately, it reminds me of a virus i had in high school where I could barely walk/move from the amount of joint pain i was in.
I'm almost finished another pair of fetchings (only 3 more to go so that I have all of the ones I WANT to knit done and maybe I can knit myself a pair jeez). I have 3 baby blankets to do: one is going to Norway, one to Illinois, and one for my sister in law - but I'm going to delay that one as much as possible. I want to make a monogrammed one from simple knits for cherished babies for the future neice/nephew! So much baby knitting to do be, I'm thrilled. Those projects go so quickly, how could a person not like to knit them?
Tomorrow, I go to pick up my other best friend from undergrad, Carolyn from Chadds Ford so she and I can spend time together before she goes back to Miami and I go back to Pittsburgh. Friday night, the boy and I are going to see Electric Six at the kypher (I think I butchered that) and my parents are bringing me back to the 'burgh on Saturday. I have a surprise party to attend that evening, and then, it's NEW YEARS EVE :/ Where has the time gone?
Are you lot doing anything fun for new years?
So, I flew home to Philadelphia on Wednesday evening. My flight was originally supposed to take off at 4:15 but we were delayed due to air traffic control issues and heavy fog until 10:30. After sitting at Pittsburgh International Airport for 7 hours and switching planes from one withouth the right equipment for a fog landing to one that had it, we landed at almost 11:45 at night, and John and I didn't leave the airport with my baggage until 12:15. I was finally home at 1:15. It felt so good to sleep in my bed with my fat cat, Haley.
Since then I've been spending a lot of time at my dad's office helping out. I've been folding bills (he runs a water company where we live) and will be playing secretary this afternoon while everyone else is out for their xmas luncheon. It's nice because I'll get some extra money for the month by doing this. And we all know that extra money is great!
I'm still exhausted and when I get home tonight I'm going to have to help my mom clean for my birthday/xmas party which is on Sunday.
Grades are due next Monday. I know already that I have an A- in one class, the other is Pass/Fail, and my third one will most likely be an A because of the professor and the fact that we only had 6 hw assignments (i love grad school!). It was strange to not have any finals, but I still managed to stress myself out by being worried about two of my students that I invested a LOT of time into for studying/tutoring.
I've finished one of two gloves for my mom. I'll hopefully start the second later on today. She borrowed a pair (that are for Carolyn) for the weekend last weekend because it was terribly cold. I love them and can't wait to knit a pair for myself. I had ordered some Alpaca Silk from knitpixie and it arrived at home before I was even home. I'm going to try my hand at knitting a gift bag. I also picked up some organza bags and loose lavender to make some sachets to try to sell in the gallery. This winter has been sucky for those of us trying to sell scarves because it's been above 40 degrees for most of it (mind you, i'm not complaining about this because I'm the child that is ALWAYS freezing - even now!). I have a few patterns for these and hopefully they will knit up quickly. I just hate hate hate hate the smell of lavender!
That's right, 2 pairs this week. I have 4 more to go. Some are okay for after xmas gifts, so really, only 2. Haha. Yay.
I bought a pattern for a felted bag that I want to make, so that will happen after all of this xmas crap is done.
It's been rather cold lately, so I'm really wanting to knit myself something soft and warm, but I a: don't have supplies to do so, b: don't have time and c: have way too much else to knit before that can even be considered a possiblity.
How frustrating.
I just wound up a ball of Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran in 616 and will be starting a pair of fetchings for my friend Caroline later on this afternoon.
I finished up the ones for New Age Amazon last night. Sadly, her house was broken into last night and she was rather freaked out about it (understandably so) and spent the night at my apartment. Hooray for spontaneous sleep overs!
Right now, my 10 am cancelled, I'm working on photocopying review packets for the business statistics review session I'm holding this evening from 7-9 and dreading my 11 am appointment. I'm not really sure how this one was accepted to Pitt, let alone, allowed to take Stat 0200. I get frustrated with the kiddies that shouldn't be in these courses. This is why I could never be a teacher.
Oh well, only 1 hour of class today, then getting lunch with my friends at 1:15. Something nice to look forward to.
More later on.
Here's 1 of 2 for New Age Amazon
Hopefully by Tuesday evening!
This weekend started with Friday which was the annual light up night celebration in downtown pittsburgh. New Age Amazon and I met downtown at one of the many starbucks stores and wandered around the city stupidly trying to find a restaurant that wasn't packed before deciding to just check out the tree at PPG place and then head back to shadyside to grab dinner.
Here are some shots of the tree, the ice skating rink around the tree, and me with the walking heinz ketchup bottle:
After a delicious dinner we just chilled out and worked on our knitting projects. I managed to finish the first of a set of fetchings for a friend:
I did one of the gloves in 3.5 hours and finished the second in about the same time. What a thrill to get another thing crossed off of the knit list for december.
I am 1/3 of the way done the baby blanket too! Yay.
Last night, I hosted a girls' only dinner party. It was great. I made some pico de gallo using ●ßoηi†a.in.Ρink●'s recipe. FANTASTIC! I also made ricotta based gnocchi, and a peanut butter fudge cheesecake (which there is still half of the cake left!) We drank two bottles of wine, some Fat Bastard, and some Gala Rouge. Delicious!
I already own the following:
And today I bought..
I've just really been looking for something new, and a lot of co-workers have been approaching for baby stuff.. so I figured I'll get a TON of use out of these. I'm going to finish up the current pair of fetchings - have to do the second mitt, and then finish up my original cable scarf and then possibly pick something fun out of one of these two.
Also, as of late, I've been dvr'ing episodes of Knitty Gritty on DIY. Some of the things they have to offer are really nice, and some are just horrifically tacky. I've printed out several scarf patterns that I want to try.
I also have my eye on a skein of yarn at Knit One - my local and preferred yarn store - which is hand spun, dyed, and is around $75. I saw it in their fall intro basked and fell in love. I may purchase it to make a shawl with, as it is mohair and includes a pattern for a shawl (imagine that...).
Oh well, back to the grind, second round of comprehensive exams is on Saturday. Here's hoping for good results and a ton of knitting when it is over and done with!
Well the second pair of fetchings are done and given away already! Kat enjoyed them greatly and cannot wait for it to get cold enough in this god forsaken city so that she can wear them.
I finally figured out what I was doing wrong on the thumb gusset, I have to do what the directions indicated, but backwards, starting at the top instead of the bottom due to my style of knitting.
It's done. The first set. Only one mistake, but who cares. I need to work on the thumb gusset part, but they came out lovely. Several pics to follow :)
I was approached to knit an afghan today. With Cables. Why am I such a sucker? The woman is to buy the yarn and then tack on $20 for the cost. I'm too nice to my co-workers.
Only 2354562435436454325083546745 sets of fetching gloves to go... such a cheap gift, everyone is getting one, well except castingon, because, she can knit her own damn pair :)
